Martinique is know for its Agricole Rum Distilleries. One of the most popular drinks is the Ti’Punch or in French “Petite Ponch”.
A popular tradition is that of chacun prépare sa propre mort (roughly, each prepares his own death), where instead of serving the mixed drink, the bartender or host will simply place out the ingredients, and everyone will prepare the drink according to his or her own taste. Most agree that the "real" ti'punch should be served without ice.
My cups allow for continuous mixing by swirling or rocking the cup. Which needs to be done due to the different viscosities of the liquids in the drink.
The ingredients of this drink are as follows.
Simple syrup is as easy as stirring 1 part water to 1 part sugar (I recommend Turbinado Sugar) in a medium sauce pan. Bring to a boil, stirring, until sugar has dissolved. Allow the Simple Syrup to cool and enjoy.
This drink is wonderfully refreshing on a hot summer day!
